MARS Warrior Challenge

The MARS Warrior Challenge is a Weapons Based Martial Arts (WBMA) Tournament of skill!

Come test your skills in Sword and Knife while fighting for a higher cause!  Amateur and Advanced WBMA fighters wanted!

MARS Action Group is reaching out to all European and Asian Weapons Based Martial Arts schools, Sword fighting and Fencing groups/leagues/clubs (Arnis/Escrima/Kali, WEKAF, HEMA, SCA, Cold Steel Challengers, Laban Laro, Dog Brothers, Kendo, etc.)to participate in the 1st MARS Warrior Challenge, a WBMA tournament benefitting Autism. Dubbed a “celebration of the warrior lifestyle,” the MARS Warrior Challenge pits skilled WBMA fighters in one-on-one combat in a controlled, safe environment.

MARS Warrior Challenge is scheduled for Saturday, June 1, 2019 at the Ventura County Fairgrounds and Event Center at the McBride Hall, in Ventura, California.

Competitions will kick off at 10:00 am to 5:00 pm.

(Check-in will be one-and-a-half hours before each fighter’s division)

MARS Action Group is founded by Diana Lee Inosanto (daughter of martial arts icon, Dan Inosanto) and husband Ron Balicki, both longtime ambassadors and teachers in the martial arts world.

As the parents of an Autistic son, they are hoping to bring global WBMA groups together to fight for a higher cause.

The MARS Warrior Challenge is dedicated to donating portions raised from this event to directly support charities aiding the Autism Community.

GENERAL COMPETITION INFORMATION

AWARDS
Championship Belts will be awarded to the winner of each division: All-Around Sword Fighting, All-Around Knife Fighting, Masters Sword Fighting and Masters Knife Fighting.

Medals will be awarded in the Amateur Sword Fighting Division, Amateur Knife Fighting Division, and Team Sword Fighting Division for 1st, 2nd and 3rd place.

Award ceremonies will take place throughout the day.

EVENTS SCHEDULED
Amateur Division
Amateur Division is meant for fighters with little to no experience. You cannot enter amateur and Open Divisions.

Open Division
Open Division is meant for more experienced fighters. You cannot enter Amateur and Open Divisions.

  • Open Division Knife Fighting
  • Open Division Sword Fighting

Master Division
Age 40 and above only

• Master Division Sword Fighting

Team Division - 3 Members Required
If you are not part of a MA school, WBMA group, club or league, you can still form a composite team.

GENERAL RULES
Scoring: 9 LIVES
Competitors have up to 9-Lives to protect while taking out the other opponent’s 9-Lives through careful, cunning, cutting-edge strategy.
Up to two 2-minute rounds.
WBMA Fighter(s) who maintain the most “LIVES” WINS!

Four Judges and one Referee in each ring size floored area.

Getting to Ventura County Fairgrounds/ MARS Warrior Challenge

AMTRAK TRAIN SERVICE
Amtrak’s Pacific Surfliners stop at the Ventura train station daily seven days a week. The Ventura Station is located just across the street from the main parking lot and the pedestrian entrances to the Fairgrounds on Harbor Blvd. just past Figueroa St.

Pacific Surfliners serve communities in the coastal portions of San Diego, Orange, Ventura, Santa Barbara and San Luis Obispo Counties, the central portions of Orange and Los Angeles Counties, and the San Fernando Valley in Los Angeles County. DIRECTIONS FROM LOS ANGELES
The Ventura County Fairgrounds are located on the beach in the city of Ventura, about 1 hour north of Los Angeles. From the Ventura Freeway (Highway 101) northbound, take the Seaward Ave. exit or the California Street exit. Turn left towards the ocean to Harbor Blvd., turn right on Harbor and continue until you reach The Ventura County Fairgrounds at the corner of Harbor and Figueroa.

DIRECTIONS FROM SANTA BARBARA
The Ventura County Fair is located on the beach in the city of Ventura, about 1 hour north of Los Angeles and about 30 minutes south of Santa Barbara. From the Ventura Freeway (Highway 101) southbound, take the Seaward Ave. exit, make an immediate right on Harbor Blvd. and proceed to Ventura County Fair at Seaside Park.
